Why Choose the Dedicated Medjugorje Tour Over the Combined Tour
The Case for Going Straight to Medjugorje
The most popular day trip from Dubrovnik visits both Medjugorje and Mostar — a great option for sightseers but one that leaves only 1.5–2 hours at the shrine. This dedicated tour gives you significantly more time in Medjugorje: enough to attend Mass at St. James Church, walk to the Blue Cross, climb Apparition Hill, pray the Rosary at the outdoor stations, and browse the main street at your own pace.
For pilgrims, this is the right trade-off.
- More time at St. James Church — attend Mass without rushing
- Full Apparition Hill climb with time to stay at the top
- Visit the outdoor Stations of the Cross on Cross Mountain (longer option)
- No coach schedule pressure between multiple destinations
Round-Trip Transport Included
The tour includes round-trip air-conditioned transport from Dubrovnik. The 2.5-hour drive each way crosses the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina. The guide covers the history of the region and the story of the apparitions during the drive, so you arrive informed and spiritually prepared.
What You'll See in Medjugorje

St. James Parish Church
St. James Church is the liturgical and spiritual center of Medjugorje. Built in 1969, twelve years before the apparitions, it now serves hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually.
English-language Mass is celebrated daily — check the schedule posted at the entrance. The interior is simple and modern; the experience is defined by the community of pilgrims gathered there rather than by any architectural grandeur.
Apparition Hill (Podbrdo)
The rocky hillside where Mirjana Dragičević, Ivanka Ivanković, Vicka Ivanković, Ivan Dragičević, Marija Pavlović, and Jakov Čolo first reported seeing the Virgin Mary on 24 June 1981. The ascent takes 25–35 minutes on a path of loose limestone rocks. Pilgrims pray the Rosary along the way; the path is lined with bronze bas-relief stations depicting the mysteries.
At the top, a bronze statue of Our Lady marks the apparition site. The views over the Herzegovinian valley are remarkable.
- 24 June 1981 — the date of the first apparition
- Six visionaries from Bijakovići — their names are inscribed at the site
- Bronze statue of Our Lady at the apparition site
- Bronze Rosary stations along the path
- Allow 45–60 minutes round trip from the base
The Blue Cross and Outdoor Stations
The Blue Cross (Plavi Križ) at the base of Apparition Hill is a gathering point for group prayer and an important landmark in its own right. For pilgrims who cannot climb the hill, the Blue Cross provides a prayerful outdoor space with a direct view of the apparition hillside. The outdoor Stations of the Cross lead from behind the church toward Cross Mountain (Križevac) — a longer 45-minute ascent available for those with time and energy.

Important Things to Know
The Lady Queen of Peace
The visionaries reported that the apparition identified herself as the Gospa (Our Lady), Queen of Peace. The messages attributed to these apparitions — peace, prayer, fasting, conversion, and faith — have been a consistent theme throughout 40+ years of reported apparitions. The messages are central to the Medjugorje experience and your guide will discuss them in the context of the broader Catholic tradition and the Church's ongoing investigation.
Cross Mountain (Križevac) — Optional Extension
Cross Mountain sits above the village and can be climbed in approximately 45 minutes. A large concrete cross at the summit was erected in 1933. The path is lined with 14 Stations of the Cross in bronze.
If you are physically fit and arrive with enough time, your guide can advise whether the schedule permits a Križevac ascent in addition to Apparition Hill.
Border Crossing
The tour crosses from Croatia into Bosnia and Herzegovina. All passengers need a valid passport or national ID (EU citizens). Non-EU nationals should verify entry requirements in advance.
The crossing typically takes 10–20 minutes but can be longer in summer.
Location: Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Medjugorje Pilgrimage Day Tour from Dubrovnik — FAQs
How long does the drive from Dubrovnik to Medjugorje take?
The drive is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours from Dubrovnik, including the border crossing into Bosnia and Herzegovina. You typically arrive in Medjugorje around 10am if pickup is at 7:30am.
Is English-language Mass available at St. James Church?
Yes — English-language Mass is celebrated daily at St. James Church. The schedule varies by season and is posted at the church entrance. Your guide will know the daily timetable and can help you attend if timing permits.
What is the difference between Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain?
Apparition Hill (Podbrdo) is where the six visionaries first reported seeing the Virgin Mary in 1981. It takes about 25–35 minutes to climb and is the most spiritually significant site. Cross Mountain (Križevac) is a separate, higher hill above the village with a large concrete cross, lined with bronze Stations of the Cross — a different spiritual walk, about 45 minutes up. Most day trips only have time for one; Apparition Hill is prioritized.
Can I see the visionaries in Medjugorje?
The six visionaries — Mirjana Dragičević, Ivanka Ivanković, Vicka Ivanković, Ivan Dragičević, Marija Pavlović, and Jakov Čolo — live in and around Medjugorje. Some hold public prayer meetings with pilgrims. These are not scheduled in advance and your guide will advise if any are happening on your tour day.
Is this tour suitable for non-Catholic visitors?
Yes. Many visitors come to Medjugorje out of curiosity — the social and historical story of the apparitions beginning in 1981 during Yugoslav communism is significant regardless of faith. The guide presents the site from both a spiritual and historical perspective.
I've wanted to visit Medjugorje for fifteen years. This tour from Dubrovnik finally made it happen and it exceeded every expectation. The guide was thoughtful and respectful of the pilgrimage character of the day. Standing on Apparition Hill was unlike anything I have experienced.
We chose this tour specifically because it was Medjugorje-only — no rushing between Mostar and Počitelj. The extra time made a real difference. We attended Mass, climbed the hill, and spent an hour just sitting in the church gardens. Deeply peaceful.
Came as a skeptic, left as someone who wants to come back. I can't explain the atmosphere there — it's something you have to experience in person. The guide was excellent and very respectful of different viewpoints.
